Research Quality Assurance System at FBM BUT

In accordance with the Higher Education Act, the Internal Quality Assessment at Brno University of Technology (BUT) is performed by a system for ensuring and assessing the quality of its educational, research, creative and other activities. Evaluation of creative activities forms an important part of this system.

The entire system of quality assurance at FBM BUT, including the method for taking corrective measures and the form of subsequently monitoring their fulfilment, is defined by internal regulations of the Quality Management System Manual, Quality Manual and Quality Policy.

In accordance with these regulations, main processes associated with science, research and creative activity are divided into several areas. Their procedures are described in detail in the relevant guidelines.

A key component of quality assurance of research at FBM BUT is integrity of particular research constituents. FBM has established a coherent system by creating conditions for long-term conceptual work by excellent teams, establishing new laboratories and scientific teams (LAPROCO) and supporting both scientific (Specific University Research) as well as business activities of students including transfer through entrepreneurship support (ContriBUTe). This system consistently ensures quality before accepting a project for funding, during its implementation, in the form of interim reports, and during public presentations of final results (Workshop of Specific University Research).

The FBM promotes the integration of research into all areas of activity and emphasizes its importance regarding internal (students and academic staff) as well as external subjects (businesses, institutions or non-profit organizations). Other activities, such as university library services or consulting services (INPROFO Consulting), have a significant impact on the quality of the faculty’s educational and creative activities and fulfill the idea of simultaneously ethically and beneficially conducted research.

The evaluation of these activities takes place using various tools, such as feedback received from users of the services, annual reports on the activities of the departments or on educational activities. The ethical aspect of research is regulated by FBM Code of Conduct, closely associated with the BUT Code of Conduct based on the European Charter for Researchers. Binding annex to the BUT Code of Conduct is The European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity.
